How Pelvic Correction may help

A series of simple checks will assess whether the pelvis is aligned correctly or not.  If it is, then other options will be discussed.

If it is misaligned, then I will treat using techniques taught by Alexander Barrie in his Pelvic Correction Diploma course (which I completed in 2001), which combine diagnostic training with Shiatsu techniques and the Japanese 'Sotai' stretching exercises to increase flexibility and retrain the body.  General 'warming up' of the hips and pelvic girdle will be followed by appropriate assisted stretches to allow the muscles around the pelvis to pull it back into alignment.  Some gentle Shiatsu techniques will also be used to stabilise the area and relieve pain.

Exercises and stretches can be taught to clients for home use and, over a period of time, can enable the pelvis to stabilise itself.  The client will be encouraged to do at least some exercises and, equally important, to avoid certain movements and activities which are likely to undo the work of the treatment.  A much more successful outcome is likely to be achieved, if this is the case.

No invasive manipulation is involved and no 'clicking and crunching' techniques.  Treatments take place fully clothed and lying down, usually on a padded mat (futon) on the floor, but can also be carried out on a massage couch.

Treatments are usually pain free, but this depends on the severity of the symptoms in the first place, and I always work closely with the client, getting feedback about how what I am doing feels.

How many treatments will be needed?
Everyone is different, and the techniques do not work for everyone. Long-standing problems are likely to take longer to stabilise than recent ones. Also, if a client is willing to do exercises between treatments, there is likely to be a quicker result.  Typically I would do an initial treatment, and then one or two follow-ups at approximately 2-week intervals, and a couple of follow-ups at longer intervals. However, some clients only seem to need one treatment, or a couple at most, aand others need more treatment and sometimes an ongoing regular 'tweak'.
